Comprehensive eye care allows your doctor to detect any visual or eye health issues. Clear vision does not always indicate that the eyes are completely healthy which is why we recommend an annual eye exam even if vision is excellent. Many early-stage eye diseases can be symptomless. Also, some systemic conditions, like diabetes and high blood pressure, can sometimes present in the eyes without symptoms.
Individuals with diabetes or pre-diabetes require annual monitoring of the eye as the eye is the only place in the body where we can directly view the blood vessels. If the blood vessels in the eyes are being affected causing diabetic retinopathy, this is communicated to your primary care or endocrinologist for comanagement purposes. Diabetes can also cause fluctuating and, in some more severe cases, irreversible vision changes.
Medical and problem focused eye exams include everything and anything. Red, dry, and itchy eyes including conjunctivitis can best be managed by a doctor of optometry. We can also treat eye injuries, medical conditions like glaucoma, and a variety of other eye ailments.
All of our doctors fit and evaluate contact lenses on both existing and new wearers. We always recommend the latest and greatest contact lens technology that will keep your eyes safe and healthy. Contact lens evaluations can include soft contact lenses, toric (for astigmatism), multifocal/monovision, gas permeable, and scleral lenses.
